Raising the Bar
Montecito’s newest wine-tasting bar, Vic’s, is inspired by the café cultures of New Zealand and Europe.

“My aunt, Victoria, has been the north star of hospitality for us—always warm and inviting,” says Ethan Elisara, referring to the inspiration behind VIC’S, the wine bar he and his wife, Aleah, just launched at The Post, across from the bird refuge. Inspired by the café culture of Auntie Vic’s native New Zealand and the allure of the cafés of Europe, Vic’s is actually the result of a nightly transformation: The space that houses Little King Coffee by day converts to a cozy hangout for oenophiles by night.
“We hang artwork and light candles to set the ambiance,” Aleah says. The concise wine list is a 50-50 blend of California bottles—mainly unique Santa Barbara labels—and special European finds, all of which can be ordered by the glass or bottle. There’s also a 20 percent discount on bottles to go. The handful of food options includes a homemade savory sausage roll, another Kiwi inspiration. Guests can sip at the four-seat bar, at one of a few indoor tables, or on the outdoor patio. “We want them to have an unhurried experience,” Ethan says, “and to linger a little longer.” 1801 E.
