Women

Annie Leibovitz, Women (Phaidon, $100)

“Women” is Annie Leibovitz’s landmark portrait project, a sweeping visual record of women over more than three decades. The two-volume set gathers over 250 images, pairing world-famous figures—actors, artists, politicians, athletes, activists—with farmers, soldiers, scientists, and everyday workers to show the breadth of contemporary womanhood. Accompanied by texts from Susan Sontag, Gloria Steinem, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the book becomes a meditationon power, vulnerability, beauty, and agency, tracing how women’s roles, visibility, and self-presentation have changed—and how they remain contested.
