You Are Going on a Trip, Charles Garabedian, 1980. Etching. SBMA, Gift of Stephen Acronico.

Summer is a time for travel, a fact that the Santa Barbara Museum of Art hasembraced with their summer exhibition “You Are Going On A Trip” on display from May 28 to August 20. Curator Michael Duncan draws a selection of modern and contemporary prints from the museum’s permanent collection, organizing them loosely into themes including dreams, icons, notions of home and travel, history, and images of human and wildlife. Focusing on work produced between the 1940s and 1970s, this collection of lithographs, screen prints, woodblock prints, and other forms of printmaking relies on eclectic imagery to take its viewers on a metaphoric trip around the world. “Prints take us places,” says Duncan.“They lead us to exotic and familiar locales…. They confront desires and goals and sometimes lead to an expansion of our definitions of art.” With works from American and international artists, this exhibition encompasses a wide variety of styles and content to describe each artist’s experiences of the world. 1130 State St., Santa Barbara, 805-963-4364.
