Wright S. Ludington

Since May 24, visitors at the South Pavilion at the Getty Center have experienced a phenomenal collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures from our very own Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Curated by Jeffery Spier, the exhibit features a series of sculpted marble and bronze Greek gods, goddesses, heroes, and more. All but one of the sculptures displayed in the installation is from the collection of SBMA founder and passionate art lover, Wright S. Ludington (1900–1992). The standout piece in the series of Greco-Roman sculptures is Landsome Hermes—a stunning piece that was considered to be the most valued roman sculpture in all of England after its discovery in 1771. The works in this exhibition are on long-term display until the end of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s renovation and refurbishment. –Maddie Cuttler
