Java addicts of Santa Barbara…you’re in luck. Handlebar Coffee Roasters—the newest coffee house to open downtown—promises rich roasts, frothy lattes, fresh and delectable treats from Renaud’s and Scarlett Begonia, and good ol’ deep, dark cups of joe. Co-owners and couple Aaron Olson and Kim Anderson transformed the former Three Pickles location on Canon Perdido Street into an airy and inviting cafe, with three sets of double glass doors that flood the interior with light, and tables outside to sit, relax, and chat over hot beverages. Former professional cyclists, Olson and Anderson hung up their helmets to perfect the art of the perfect cup of coffee at the American Barista & Coffee School in Portland, Oregon, Olson’s hometown. After roasting their own beans in their garage for the past year, the duo is open for business, serving up fresh java and friendly smiles seven days a week, from 7 am until 5 pm. If you need to perk up before getting the turkey in the oven tomorrow, the cafe will be open 7 am until the early afternoon.
