The Oracle of Delphi

The newest addition to downtown’s urban wine trail: Sanguis Winery. Winemaker Matthias Pippig decide to move his production from Ojai last summer because “Santa Barbara is a cool place, and the neighborhood we’re in is just the right mix between beauty and industrial grit for my taste,” he says. Now, hip sippers can head to the minimalist yet intimate tasting room to sample his cool-climate Rhône and Burgundian varietals—Ode to Sunshine and Uncloudy Day (white wines), the Oracle of Delphi (Syrah), and Las Mujeres (Grenache/Syrah/Roussanne/Viognier blend), to name a few. And since tastings are by appointment only, says Pippig, “We typically show visitors the winery itself as part of the experience.” –G.Z.T.
