Surf/skate fashion icon Shawn Stussy—who’s called Santa Barbara home since 1994—introduces his latest S/DOUBLE line of 1920s and ’30s-inspired European graphic tees, built-to-last jackets, and bold leather sneakers.
How has Santa Barbara influenced your designs? Traveling and modern technology provide me with a worldwide overview of design. Santa Barbara is a great location for me to filter these influences through a relaxed yet focused lens.
What are some of your inspirations? Flea markets and vintage stuff resonated with me at an early stage, and the mid ’80s brought hip-hop and DJ culture, which meant as much to me as my surf culture.
Is S/DOUBLE a completely new stylistic venture for you? We all develop a style as time slides by. S/DOUBLE is the modern version of the West Coast tradition I grew up with. –Chanel Betuk
